Motocross racer #327 Tristan Alloway

Jun 27, 2008

In early June of this year in Crystal Falls, MI, the dangers of motocross racing were realized first hand by all. On the first day of racing, one young man fell off his bike on the first of five laps and landed on his side, injuring his shoulder to the point where he was taken to the hospital. On the second, another individual came down awkwardly following a jump and fractured his leg. Medics were on scene and handled both instances properly, but sometimes injuries are just part of the sport.

None of this scares young Forest County Potawatomi Racing motocross driver Tristan Alloway however. In fact, when asked what his favorite part about racing was, he said: “Hitting the jumps.” Considering the racer who injured his shoulder was a fellow FCP Racing teammate, the 65cc points leader, and more importantly his cousin Mike Alloway Jr., that is a rather fearless statement made by Tristan.

The son of Sam Alloway went on to race well that weekend at Valley Raceway Motocross, a course that prides itself in being an “old school sand track about one mile long with lots of elevation changes.”

Perhaps the reason Tristan was unscathed during his heats 65cc events is because that wasn’t even the most challenging part of his weekend. Alloway pulls double duty, also competing in the 85cc class. When asked which was his favorite bike to race, Alloway said; “The 85(cc).” When asked why, he said: “because it’s faster,” with a spark of enthusiasm in his voice.

One might wonder where a young man develops such bravery at such a young age. In this case, it seems to be a combination of sources.

His father, Sam Alloway, is constantly giving him encouragement before and after races. When the boy has any down time, he and his father are making adjustments and improvements on his bike.

“His neighbor and best friend who treats him as a brother, Carl Campbell, inspired him into racing at the age of four and later started racing full throttle at age 5 to the present,” said Tristan’s father Sam. In fact, Tristan would like to dedicate his racing to Carl, because he “will never forget how Carl taught him how to ride a motorcycle.”

The final piece of the puzzle comes from someone a little father away from home, fellow FCP Racing team member Johnny Greaves. When asked if he had a role model he looked up to, Tristan said: “Johnny Greaves. He’s awesome.”

Those are quite the supporters to have. Anyone with people like that behind them has no limit to what they can do.

When asked if he wanted thought someday he might switch to cars or trucks (like his role model Johnny Greaves), Tristan said: “No, I want to stick with motocross.” Apparently the young man wants to blaze his own trail. Who knows, maybe in a few years, Tristan Alloway will be as common a name as Johnny Greaves. Only time will tell.
