WSORR 'Night of Champions' Highlights 2008 Racing
Oct 6, 2008
You could tell that it was a successful racing season in the World Series of Off Road Racing simply by the amount of people that showed up to the annual Lucas Oil, WSORR 'Night of Champions' last Saturday night at the Potawatomi Bingo Casino in Milwaukee, WI.
The event took place at the Northern Lights Theater and included different season recap videos prepared by NeWave Productions and was hosted by WSORR Director of Communications & Multimedia Steve Weiss and WSORR General Manager Doug Davis.
The event highlighted the entire season by giving out World Championship rings, Points Championship trophies and the highly coveted Borg Warner Shootout and Chairman’s Cup trophies. The skill and competition within the WSORR is greatly increasing, and it is obvious by looking at the Points Champions for each division. Only one driver was able to repeat as points champion, that being David Demaegd in the Formula 4x4 class.
Potawatomi Racing member Jeff Kincaid was awarded with the Points Championship trophy for the Pro Light class, making it his sixth Pro Light championship. Kincaid is also in contention for the Points Championship in CORR, which ends its season December 7 in Chula Vista, CA.
Another member of the Potawatomi Racing team was honored with a World Championship ring. Johnny Greaves set a track record at Crandon International Off Road Raceway just before winning the World Championship race on Saturday of the spring run. Other members of the racing team that were acknowledged were Ben Wandahsega who finished second in the Super Truck points standings, Matt Gerald who finished second in the 1600 Light Buggy points standings and Evan Evans who finished in fourth for the Pro 2wd points standings.
General Manager of WSORR Doug Davis made a few announcements for changes the upcoming year including higher payouts to drivers, a new television schedule and the official race schedule for the 2009 season. Davis also announced that there will be a new truck taking over the Pro 4x4 class. What has been called the Ultra 4x4 will now be called the Pro 4x4 class, allowing drivers a cheaper way to participate in a higher level of racing. Drivers who help build the new Pro 4x4 class will be given higher payouts and if they continue to race their current class and add Pro 4x4 their season payout will be “well worth it,” according to Davis. The 2009 season of the WSORR is promised to exceed the years past.
Hundreds were in attendance and included sponsors, racers, crew members and families. After an award ceremony and dinner it was time to let loose as everyone in attendance watched and listened to Boogie and the Yo Yo’z who played on the stage to end the night.
