Nelson, Springborn earn respected Championships

Sep 5, 2008

It's been a long rough year for all of the Forest County Potawatomi stock car racers, but that's not to say that they didn't succeed.

Troy Nelson has taken his Wisconsin Short Track stock car all around the state searching for wins. After a few bad nights in Kaukauna, WI and the Wisconsin International Raceway, Nelson was forced to switch to his No. 19 crate engine car and concentrate on the races in Norway, MI.

It didn't take long for Nelson to adapt to the shorter 1/2-mile track up north, even after crashing. On a Friday evening in July Troy was clipped from behind and sent straight into the wall. After being towed into the pits Nelson thought his night was over. However, with the help of other teams' crew members and a quick change of a radiator Nelson and his crew were able to get back on the track before the caution was lifted. That is how you know you're respected, when other crews help you get back on the track.

Nelson got back in the race in 16th and continued to work his way through the pack, finishing in seventh. Nelson eventually went on to take the points championship in Norway. He needed a sixth place finish on the final night, but Nelson wouldn't go out easy as he worked his way from third to first with just six laps left to take the win and the points championship on the final night.

Troy Springborn is yet another classy and successful Forest County Potawatomi driver. Springborn took two track championships this season in the WISSOTA Late Model division on the dirt track.

After flipping in a wreck at Shawano Speedway, Springborn was also forced to switch to his crate motor car and continue the season. That wasn't all too bad of a decision as Troy mentioned that the crate car was working better for him.

The crate worked for him as he took both points championships at Langlade County Speedway in Antigo, WI and Shawano Speedway in Shawano, WI.

Look for both of the Troy's to be dominating the tracks and the competition next year.
